What I Found in The Garden

I found the squash are doing remarkably well. They have grown at least 3" since I put them in the ground. That is a deer print to the left.

Doesn't this baby look good. Peas poking out to the sun. I love to see the baby just as it breaks the surface - and rolls the dirt back. It took 7 days for most to make show and I think that is pretty good.

The butter beans are popping up. All of the seeds that I planted on April 5th have broken the surface.
If you enlarge this photo you can clearly see the green popping out all over the garden. I expect next week I'll be showing the seeds that I planted this past weekend.

This is the row of yellow crook neck squash doing very well. My mouth is already watering for squash, green onion and butter. Hmmm

Yep this is the deer checking to see what may be coming up for dinner. I think the contraption that I am going to put together for the "fencing" will have to go up. I have in my head what I am going to do. After I get it up I'll post pictures and let you know how well it is working.

I counted 3 set of deer prints. I appeared to be a lightweight while the others were a medium and a large.
Hope you all have a nice day working in the gardens on this beautiful day and we'll look for the photos.

Your plants are looking great. It's a beautiful time of year for working in the garden/yard if not for the pollen! No matter, I'll just load up on Kleenex and work anyway! Have fun and good luck with the deer fencing.

That is a baby deer. Not even a year old yet. Soon all of your veggies will be so big you won't be able to see from one end of the patch to the other :)

This is some garden you have - and all that squash! Sorry about the deer. Can they not walk on some other garden?

You can nearly see them grow and I expect those deer are just waiting for the right moment.

That looks an enormous veg area - will you eat all that yourselves? The soil looks like pale sand - what is it actually like? I bet not that, if things grow so well!

EB - actually the soil is quite good. Very dark and rich. The top is a little dry. Been a couple of days since rain.

I have planted such a variety that I have 7-9 hills of each item. I don't plan to put much up. I expect any excess of veggies I'll be sharing with The Dirt Princess.

Wow - wonderful growth you have - and I love the pictures - especially the close ups when they were just coming out of the ground.

And I can't wait to see what you have come up with for the deer :-)

Becca...my squash looks good but my cucumbers
got frost bit and died. I don't plant peas or butterbeans. I have all kinds of peppers.I have to put up pepper sauce for my children.
We did plant brussel sprouts and cabbage for fun. Hubby's okra, watermelons and cantalope got washed out by that 4 3/4 inches of rain the other night.

You really did do a lot of work getting those all planted! I also love seeing the sprouts first popping up, that's great that you had everything come up. I hope the deer don't eat your hard work and hope your contraption works!

I put pictures of two barns on post . If you like these that would be good. We are taking a fishing trip to Tennessee next week may get more pictures.

Thank you for your lovely comment about the Azalea's. I used to live on Dauphin Island for many years. I had a little crabbing business there. Sometimes I long for the coast and that little Island until I hear about hurricanes brewing. Then.....so quite as much, lol.
That's no deer print girl......that's Bigfoot!!
He's real you know :)
I love your blog and will come back more often lovely lady.

That looks like a wonderful garden. Will you please show us a photo when it's all grown in? I would never have known that was a baby deer. One reason I love to blog is that you find out so much. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Your baby veggies look so nice. It makes me hungry. The little deer must be hungry too. I will look forward to seeing the veggies grown.

what a great big garden! can't wait to watch it grow!

I live in the city now and we don't have deer, but one year I had a veggie garden similar to yours at my mom's house in the country, and one night the deer ate EVERYTHING down to nubs! we had to laugh because it was just so severe that it was funny! we put up a makeshift plastic fence, a fake owl and some soap and started over. no more deer problems. they'll keep you on your toes!

I was wondering if you ever heard of Sweet Home and Garden Chicago Blog? (My mother's blog) she was born and grew up in Winfield Alabama but now lives in Chicago. Nice to see another great gardener from Alabama.
