What Didn't Grow

What didn't even make a show.

Gladiolas, 4 varieties of Dahlias, Ranuculus, Liatris, 4 varieties of Day Lilies, Bleeding Hearts, Rudbekia, Phlox, Purple Verbena, Double Decker Coneflower, Crazy Daisy, and Yellow Perfection Viola's. I know there are some more to list but this is enough to discourage someone. I won't be beat by some no shows. Even though these didn't make a showing there is always the next season - fall and winter.

I have begun the planning and hope to have more success with fall than I did with the spring stuff.

I am sorry some were no shows.

Becca,
My utter garden failures of the summer were glads (like you) and squash -- pretty plants ALL destroyed by borers!
Oh well!

Becca, thank your stopping by my blog. I too have had no shows in my garden. I was dissapointed that none of my tuberoses showed. Next time....

I believe this has been one strange growing season. So many of us have had failures. My cucumbers and tomatoes were sad things because of our cool weather in June and July. My biggest disappointment was that out of the seven hydrangeas I have only one had blooms. And forget about the cosmos, clome and zinnia seeds I planted.

For real, though. Everyone's vegetable gardens around me did wonderful this year. Not mine. It didn't do well at all. I got two canteloupes out of 21 plants and 1 watermelon out of 8 plants. That's just a few to start my list. I'm looking forward to next year, too.

We have had bugs bad in the flowers and now over run with grasshoppers.

No hydrangea blooms here either - big disappointment. The impatients and caladiums did well, but not too many daylilies.

Maybe some will surprise you next spring, like the bleeding hearts. Many of my hydrangeas and clematis' never bloomed this year.

Oh man, sorry to hear that! I had a no-show mum this year. I was sad because it was a gorgeous cultivar. Sniff, sniff. The beautiful thing about gardening is there is always next year, next season, next seed! It's a continuum.

I have no shows all the time...no biggie...pick up your shovel and start something new!!! You can do it! I know you can....cause if I can do it...anyone can!!!

I have noticed that there are different issues in each year . One year I couldn't get the marigolds to germinate...the next was portulaca. Last year it was dusty miller...this one was the pansy's. Maybe it is like that everywhere!!!

That sounds like a good attitude to take- just look ahead to the fall!

You sound in fairly good spirits considering and that's good. I think the seasons were strange everywhere this year. I had no shows too - Dahlias that didn't come up and some that did and haven't bloomed - dang I'll NEVER get to see a dinnerplate! ;-(
A beautiful Buttons & Bows Hydrangea that looks healthy and great but not 1 bloom. More too that I can't remember right now. Hang in there - next year HAS to be better!

Take heart, your Rudbekia may still bloom.....it's a late season kind of thing :)

Every year is different Becca for me and my garden also. This year, for who knows what reason, our Vinca isn't growing or blooming. I've never had trouble with it before--until this year. Some years, my Impatiens do great and some years they don't... It's a mystery. Hang in there!!!! Next year will be totally different, I'm sure.
Hugs,
Betsy

It is frustrating when you have big hopes for flowers and they don't show. I've had my share of those. Hope the next round goes better for you. :)
