An Azalea Blooming in September?

This is out of season. I have lived here all my life and I have never seen an azalea bloom this time of year. I remember after Hurricane Fredrick hit Mobile in 1979 many things began to leaf out and bloom out of season due to the trees and plants being burned from the extreme winds. Yes everything appeared as though they were burned.

Anyway just wanted to share this extremely rare azalea. It didn't bloom like this last year.

Hope you all have a great weekend and get out and do something for fun. I am.

You're absolutely right about normal. Are our ears ringing? I was sitting here at your site while you were at mine! ;-)

Hmmmm... Haven't seen any Fall-blooming Azaleas--but our Rhododendron has bloomed in Fall before. ALSO--we have some spring lilies coming up NOW... Mercy!!!!

Yours is pretty though.

A very pretty colour and bonus flowers. Here in my climate Azaleas do also flower in spring and autumn.

Every year ths time we have 2 azaleas that will bloom for us ... & they shouldn't but it doesn't seem to affect the spring blooms, so I don't worry. Minds of their own ...
Have a great weekend. TTFN ~Marydon

Nature just loves to throw us curves once in a while. One year my rhododendron try to bloom again in fall. I was worried it would not bloom then in the spring but it did. This has been a very strange season for gardening ;-) Enjoy the bloom.Have a wonderful weekend.

Enjoy your lovely surprise, Becca! That's what's great about gardening..never knowing what's in store. I've had forsythia blooms in the fall ;)

That's amazing. An azalea blooming this time of year? Maybe Darla has the answer.."Encore" I have to look into the that. I liked your comment to me about getting up and down. Even with the kneeling pads, the other day I got stuck. I had visions of sitting there forever like a lawn ornament, but I finally made it up. Yesterday the doc injected my knee..

Hello Becca! tq for those very encouraging words that you have left me in my blog. I appreciate it very much. Your azalea blooms are beautiful. It has been raining heavily quite often for the past few days. I hope my plants will not suffer due to lack of sun. And yes, I would find something fun to do this weekend :-)

That is odd, but I do remember one of my mother's azaleas doing the same thing one year. Bloomed in October. May have been after Fredrick. I was a little girl.
