The Guiding Light

The long time running "Guiding Light" is turning off the lights on September 18 when the final show will air. The final taping is complete. I grew up watching this soap opera. This show has been running for 72 years beginning as a radio show debuting on radio in 1937 as a 15 minute serial. The Guiding Light came to television in 1952 and expanded to a 30 minute show in 1968.

All good things come to an end and the Lights go out on The Guiding Light. So Long.

I used to watch this show years ago. I did like it.
My Grandma got me watching As the World Turns when I was about 13 and I kept watching it until about 12 years ago. Some of these shows are just silly...but a good distraction from day to day issues in real life. ;0

Wow, that is sad I remember this as a kid. Although I never watched it I know it's been around as long as I have been a live and that is sad it's saying goodbye. Nice tribute from you though!

I remember mama watching all the soaps back in the 60's. I did not realize this soap was ending.

Actually you may view it live on CBS starting Sept 14 at 10AM each day of that week.

I started watching this show when it was 15 minutes & had a soap sponsor. I would come home for lunch with the teacher next door & RUN home after school to catch the other 15 minute soaps. Mother got me started while she would do ironing for other people that would be on for her to watch.

Since they changed the type of staging for the show, it has changed dramatically in my interest to watch it further but I will watch the last week for sure.

Have a great weekend. TTFN ~ Marydon

When I was a senior in high school I used to leave school an hour early once a week just to go home and watch Guiding Light. They will be missed, I'm sure.

Hi Becca, I used to watch Guiding Light myself but stopped years ago as I thought the writing was getting worse and I lost interest. I was however a huge fan of the show for so long, my mom and I used to watch it way back when. Sad to see the oldest soap going off the air.

Bob read that to me the other night. How sad that it's ending after being on that many years. Nice post Becca.
