Update on Gulf Oil Spill

We have oil on our beaches in Alabama. There is an oil slick headed for Pensacola Beach and NOAA expects it to reach Florida by tomorrow. The area of oil and oil sheen encompass most of the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf has been closed to fishing, shrimping and oystering. There are so many people who make their living in the Gulf fishing, etc. So many lives have been changed and are being changed. There are crews from the Coast Guard and some locals who have been trained to do clean the clean up of our beaches but it isn't but a drop in the bucket. BP does not have any of their people cleaning here but hopefully that will change. BP has let us all down. There is a current that swoops down from the northern Gulf down to the south and loops around the bottom of Florida and up the East coast. That is how large the area is that may be affected from this massive disaster. BP currently is trying to cut the steel pipes below with a digitally operated saw blade. Yesterday the blade became stuck but they say they are placing another blade down to complete the cut. This is expected to increase the flow by about 20% before they place another dome over it to siphon the oil to the surface. this method is only expected to bring barely half of the oil into a holding tank. If this doesn't work, it is iffiy at best, then we could be looking at mid to late August before the oil is stopped. We cannot even imagine the consequences if this isn't stopped. There are still so many unanswered questions because this has never happened before. People's lives have changed and many will never be the same. Hurricane season is upon us and there is so much wonder of what will happen if a storm comes into the Gulf. I guess we won't know until it happens. Think of all the animals - birds that migrate south in the spring and summer who won't make their destination. So much wildlife will be affected.

This is a connection to one of our local stations to get a first hand perspective on what is happening and also a live feed of the oil spewing from the rig 5000 feet below the surface. You can also see the blades cutting the rig. http://www.wkrg.com/gulf_oil_spill/spill_cam/

I feel so bad for the people that get their living from the sea there. I do not believe they should do off shore drilling it is too unstable and it causes more damage than it is worth. That area has had enough problems. I pray they will find a solution fast.

This whole situation is just so heartbreaking. It is totally unknown territory and we can only hope and pray that the devastating effects won't last forever. Hopefully there will be a day when the water will be oil-free and nature will once again be in balance.

SUCKS! It is supposed to leak enough oil in one hour to fill a regular size inground pool that 20%.

Unfortunate accident, but not intentional ... it is sad that these kinds of 'things' occur & both people & animals are affected. Hopefully this will be resolved & all will return to normal, once again.

Have a beautiful day ~

Really in the end it is all about greed and not about our Earth. There should have been absolute solutions before they even drilled. Why are we still relying on oil anyway? It makes me all crazy! I just hope and pray that someone, anyone comes up with a solution. It is usually a private person or entity that comes up with it! Pray it happens!

I feel so bad about the sea life that will be sickened or killed by this mess.

It really is scary watching them muddle through all of this. I just can't believe this fluke happened and no one knows what to do!

I hope the oil leak can be stopped soon. I still think of the workers who lost their lives in the explosion. I know it is hard on people and the animals who are having to live through and with it.

Hi Becca Sweetie...
Thank you so much for stopping by, for your prayers, your love and your friendship. I so appreciate you visits.

I have to tell you I am so in love with your Little Buddy. How precious he is. I can tell he is a lover. Love the picture of him. Just precious.

Your flowers that you shared are so gorgeous. I love the zinnias and begonias, and even the rose moss is beautiful. I so want to get better and get a few flowers planted in the gardens. They are so thread bare, it is sad. Maybe one day soon? I keep praying.

Thank you for the update on the oil spill. I keep praying that it will all be taken care of soon. So many lives have been affected by it all. I have never been able to understand why they would have an oil well in the middle of the ocean anyway. Look what has happened, I believe there are just to many possibilities that can happen, and they cannot control it. I will continue to pray about this situation.

Thank you for you constant visits and get wells. I so appreciate them. I am your newest follower. I will stop by again soon, and thank you for thinking of me.

I had my gallbladder taken out about 10 years ago. Best thing that ever happened, no more pain with that anyway. I am saying some prayers for you that yours either gets better or they take it out, so you can move on. Get well soon sweetie.

Country hugs sweetie and much love...Sherry

The whole situation is just disgusting. Living in a southern coastal area, I see how much that would affect the area's economy. I hope it gets stopped up before it reaches us up here in NC...

This is so terrible. I wish you all the courage in the world to get through this man-made disaster.
