Pecans

Look at the pecans on the ground. There are opened pecans all over the ground. The squirrels are having a pecan eat out. There is no where to walk that you don't step on at least 3 or 4 nuts with each step. With so many green and black ones falling it's anybody's guess if there'll be nuts this year. The extreme heat and drought has effected them. Last year I didn't think there would be any but I was surprised so we'll see. My mom makes the best divinity candy. Melts in your mouth. And those Martha Washington candy balls - scrumpious. None are complete without pecans. (Too bad I can't eat the nuts though. sad face)

Not much going on in my world. I have lost interest in the gardens for a while. I think about the end of the month I'll be ready to plant some new fall plants.

It's that time of year when I begin to think of getting some Christmas shopping started. I've already begun to make those decisions about what each will get this year.  The grandkids are usually easy to buy for. But things change - I'll add to or take away trying to make sure no one gets more than the other. When the kids were little, I made sure that one didn't get more than the other, trying to spend equally.

Sky at noon today taken when I was driving down the highway.

I love how these old oak trees hang over the roads making a tree tunnel.

Getting that time of year when festivals are about to kick off everywhere. Time for cotton candy and candy apples. Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores Alabama is a big one and hopefully will be big this year. Hoping there aren't any lingering effects on tourism caused by the oil spill for the festival. People around here are talking less and less about the oil spill.

I've babbled enough. Just writing today. Babbling. Hope you all have a great day and lovely weather.

PS send some rain and cooler temps you friends up north

Those oak trees are magnificent. I have no pecans but masses of hazel nuts. Luckily no squirrels! We do have a bushy tailed dormouse that eats a few but it is not too bad. Diane

LOL we have three or four trees and the squirrels LOVE them! We have the fattest squirrels around.
Gosh it was (and still is!) so hot this year it's hard to even think about fall.

Gorgeous photos Becca! Thanks for visiting my blog! We visit Gulf Shores AL every year, and we'll be back this fall. So glad the beaches are recovering. It's such a gorgeous place!

It was pecans from your trees that I used for the recipe 'Pecan Crusted Lamb chops' for our anniversary dinner last night. Sorry your pecans have been not so great the past couple of times. I keep mine in the freezer, I just had to get some out to chop them up for the meal, which turned out delicious. Thank you again for your hard work in gathering them.

The divinity candy sounds good as does the Martha Washington candy balls. Do you have recipes for those? If not, I'll look them up on line.

It's still hot and very humid down here too. We worked outside this morning and it was 87, but with the humidity felt like it was 97. We are so ready for cooler weather.

Enjoy the different fairs going on in your area.

Hi Becca. I hope those little squirrels leave some pecans for you. Yes, it is Festival time and I cannot wait to attend some crafting ones. I have been deciding on what to give for Christmas too. May find some goodies at the Festivals. Even some pansies and mums. LOL!

Funny I took a picture of a pile of whatever that the squirrels and/or chipmunks had piled all around the bases of a couple of fir trees. About 8" deep. I never ended up showing them though so I can imagine how yours look. I know they are busy little critters.
Hey - are you sure you haven't been hanging out around here? I took a picture of our sky (while driving too) and it looks just like yours (oh gee, imagine that) but your tree tunnel looks just like one down the road I also took a picture of and also never showed. LOL Guess we think alike in the picture department.
I also do the same thing as far as making sure everything for the grandkids is the same amount for each. You know they notice these things and I certainly don't want any hurt feelings.

I love pecans, but they don't grow well here. Too bad you can't eat them. I like your sky and tree tunnel pictures. Pretty!

I love your rambling. The weather has cooled quite a bit here but that doesn't mean we don't have some hot days in store. My garden looks so sad and neglected...it's time to start readying it for fall here too. Patty

Hi Becca,

I just helped my mom plant pecan trees on her little farm. She cannot wait until they start producing.

I just started doing a little Christmas shopping this week. It will be here before we know it :-)

Hi Becca,

It's nice to meet you! You had left a message on my blog from meeting me on Brenda's Welcome Wagon. Your flower pictures are so pretty - and your little dog is just adorable. What's his/her name?
