Where Did My Motivation Go?

Where has my motivation gone? Did someone steal it? Did I lose it somewhere? It must be the latter... I need it back.

Last year I had seedlings poking their heads up from the soil. For the past few weeks I just look in the direction of the garden center and pass it by. My hands need to get dirty and I have not allowed them. I walk about the yard and feel guilty that I have deserted it this year.

Does anyone else have a problem with motivation? What helps you?

Becca until the weather warms up a bit nothing motivates me!!! I need the sun, blue sky and the spring bulbs to awake and flower then I wake up as well. Diane

Becca, I went through this same thing most of last year. I just really didn't have much interest in my garden. The doctor checked my Vitamin D level and found it low, put me on Vitamin D and I'm telling you it made a huge difference. It's worth getting checked. Otherwise maybe once it's sunnier and warmer you'll get the garden urge back.

Becca, I think it is the weather. It has been such a harsh hard winter for many. I have to agree with Catherine about the Vitamin D. I started taking extra "D" a couple of years ago and it made all the difference in the world. Do a "google" search on Vitamin D and you will find that many people are deficient in it. It is amazing what happens when you are deficient in it.

It is hard for me to feel motivated until things get a little nicer outside here. Maybe you're just having an off day. Everyone does now and again. I hope it gets better for you soon.

When I was first retired 5 years ago, I had all kinds of motivation. Now I've lost a lot of it. I was cleaning out closets, painting, gardening, walking every day, sometimes twice a day. Now I almost have to force myself to get out and do things.
Pretty background on your blog.

Don't worry, Becca. Once the weather really warms up for you, you'll be inspired. I can hardly wait to get out there clipping and tidying up. I was just looking through several years of photos and it was getting my juices flowing. Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I was glad to see you!

It's been so long since I've had motivation I don't think I'd recognize it if it did come back...maybe I need Vitamin D too.

The winter blues Becca....if you make yourself start some seeds or pull some weeds the gardening fever will come on you...hang in there.

I think we all go through these highs and lows. Some times I just have to make myself get at it and do things. Once I get started then I am fine. Winter and lack of sunshine can really get one down and depressed sometimes. But hang in there the sun and you will shine and get up again. Prayers, Lona

I'm sorry you've lacked motivation. I've walked by my garden a lot when I didn't have time to get much done, or if I think it's too hot out. Sometimes when we lack motivation it can be depression. Things that help with that may help with the motivation to be in the garden. I know I have mild depression off and on, but when I tried medication a number of years ago, it made me shaky, and I felt worse on it. Exercise helps me, but I go in spells where I don't do it.

Let us know how you are doing. I just said a prayer for you.

Hugs,
Sue

Glad to read on my comments that you will be getting your hands in some soil this weekend...plant your troubles away!

It happens now and then to me. I really just ride it out and it seems to come back within a few weeks.

Right now I have no desire to get out in the garden, so I am hoping our winter weather fades slowly. I lost my mojo last fall and did not get much garden cleanup done. Now I have to do it all this spring and I am not really looking forward to that major task!

Sometimes I just force myself to do 15 minutes of weeding or some other garden work and then it turns into much more time and I get a lot done. Even if you only do 15 minutes, that's something. Maybe setting tiny goals like that will help you.
