In My Gardens This Week

Today I am linking up with Fishtail Cottage for Cottage Flora Thursdays and with Tootsie at Tootsie Time. You can go to their links here http://fishtailcottage.blogspot.com/2011/03/cottage-flora-thursdays-12.html

Things are popping here on the Gulf Coast as spring has arrived. The bridal wreath (spirea) is still putting on a show. I love their delicate blooms.

This is my twice a year blooming azalea. Soon they will be open all over the area.

Daffodils are slow to bloom and only giving a bloom at a time. Don't know why they aren't busting out like last year. But I'm loving the double bloom on this one. As you can see it is small.
 Nemesia.

Snaps are in their prime right now but they will be blooming all summer long and into the fall. They love it here.

Dianthus are putting on blooms but they are leggy. I didn't do the fertilizer yet so it is my fault. I'm lazy sometime - what can I say. But the Miracle Gro is on my counter in the kitchen.

Azaleas are so hard to photograph.

Purchased a few new additions to the gardens this past weekend. Loving this fire red here. So hard to photograph.

I fotgot the names of some of the plants I bought since I stupidly removed the ID tags. Shame on me.

This is a new dianthus. It will be different than the other I have. I'm looking forward to what these will look like.

This a very different verbena. Loving the soft colors.

My Sarah Bernhardt peony is coming back and looking good. I'm so hoping for a bloom this year. I planted this two years ago and it hasn't bloomed yet.

These shasta plants stayed green all winter long. I planted these last year from seeds I had done early in the year. They didn't bloom last year so I'm hoping for some blooms. If it doesn't do this year I'm pulling them out.

My one and only hosta. Didn't do much last year so this year should be better. I would so love to have a hosta garden. Maybe soon.

Bought another Butterfly Bush. I'm looking forward to lots of butterflies this year and these awesome blooms.

I've got a lot to do today so I'm gonna keep this short.

Hoping you all have a wonderful day and a great weekend.

Some years Daffs bloom better than others. Have never seen a double yellow, nice. Love the pink and white snap. Pretty red verbena. Your plants w/o the ID tag look similar to Blue Bedder Salvia? I wonder if your new dianthus will be huge like mine. It's in the bottom right of my small corner photo on my post today. Don't you dare give up on that Shasta! I've been waiting for a while on mine started from seed too. Will reply to your email in a bit.

I have a lovely bridal wreath in my garden, but it doesn't usually come out until May here in England. I love all those flowers and plants in the photos, but one of my favourites is Nemesia. I can't wait to really get out working in my garden again!

I love that variety of spirea. Maybe you need to divide those daffs and they will bloom better next year. I love butterfly bushes and I have one growing really big after I pruned it. Visiting from Flora Thursdays.

Wow Becca, You have so many interesting flowers. Can't wait to see butterflies at the Butterfly Bush...

I have several Hostas. The first year or two, they didn't do to well--but after that, they are coming back strong each year.

What is that pretty red flower with the white dots??? NEAT!!

Hope you have a good day. It's cold up here today.. Darn!!
Hugs,
Betsy

I love my spirea and wish they'd stay blooming longer. I am going to get a butterfly bush myself. I just love them and they love the hot summers we get. I really would love a peony but I am impatient waiting for them to bloom!

Hey Becca,
It is looking great so far...My butterfly bushes have gone crazy with regrowth this year so hoping for lots of blooms...I transplanted one today so have my fingers crossed I did not kill it, but it was getting so big it was blocking the light to the 2 behind it.

You asked my how I root my rosemary...well last yr I discovered by accident that just putting them in a mason jar of water in the sun will get them to root...this yr I have the in jars of water and some have started to sprout roots just 2 days later...if I get time I will dip the tips in rooting powder when I go to put them into pots...if they are to far rooted then I will just plant them with no rooting powder into the pots...going to try making my own newspaper pots like the ones on this blog here http://lindycottagehill.blogspot.com/2011/03/recycled-newspaper-pots_19.html

ok that was a very long comment...oops.

Have a great and blessed day Kelsie

You've got lots of colour in your garden already Becca and it all looks wonderful. Here in Tennessee it has gone cold again. I have shasta daisies and they do very well each year but the lavender struggles with the heat and humidity I think. Can you grow lavender where you are?

Everything is looking beautiful. The Bridal Wreath is stunning. I cannot get over how white it is. I can imagine that it must show up well at night. My goodness. Your weather must be just about perfect if you can have Snaps all summer. The first heat here in Northern California and they are gone.

You have a nice assortment of blooms there, and your young green plants look full of promise. I love the color of the second snapdragons.

We got a second estimate for the tree cutting, and it was $500 less than the first one. I am supposed to have more people coming out to give estimates. I hope they make it so we can get a decision made this weekend.

Love seeing all your pretty flowers! I'm still wallowing in mud! I know Spring rains bring beautiful flowers but here in Oregon it is ridiculous!! So please keep posting pretties!

give us some wide shots of your gardens so we can see how all these pretty things come together!

I forget exactly how I got here, (sidebar surfing), but I'm glad I did. I live in zone 8B too (peninsular Charleston), but have a 9a microclimate for downtown, and its interesting comparing the things growing down there and here. I can't believe your snapdragons stay all summer! Ours are from December til about a month from now and then all gone.

I'll be waiting to see if that peony blooms. The fact that you're keeping it alive is amazing enough!
