Cottage Flora Thursdays and FF

Joining Fishtail Cottage for Cottage Flora Thursdays and Tootsie Time for Fertilizer.

Finally a cloud came up. I was watching and hoping and praying that this cloud would settle over my house for a little while and it did. We have been so dry here in the south. The governor has declared a state of emergency for the drought conditions initiating a state wide ban on burning. There have been fires due to the dry conditions.

I thought while I was watching the cloud come up that I'd take a couple of pics before the rains come and knock down the blooms. The white dianthus with the red verbena is beautiful together. Your eyes aren't bad - the photos are blurry. Don't ask me...

And then the winds came. Ya'll it is still early in evening - not dark yet but the cloud overhead made it real dark.

Darla wanted to see my butterfly lit up. Isn't it pretty.

And it rained and...

then it rained some more... I'm not complaining.

And it rained yesterday too. When I got home yesterday I caught a few pics before it started raining again. Everything was beat down pretty good. The red verbena is laying down.

The winds beat up the larkspur. I'm still not complaining.

I hate to hurt your eyes. This the best out of 6 pics of the tiny balloon flower. Darla sent me the seeds. This baby was hiding behind the snapdragon. It was so low to the ground I couldn't get myself down low enough to get a good pic. Sorry. These ole knees are bad and I can't stoop down.

I dashed into the rain to get this one for ya. Had to hold it's face up for the camera. Why do dahlias hang their heads so bad. This ones wet so thats the reason it's hanging its head but I've noticed that about dahlias.

I am just so thankful to receive the rain on my pretty flowers. I heard them singing when the rain fell. All the ones that lay on the ground will perk up. Thats the good thing about flowers - they take the damage and will probably be prettier next week. Its time for pruning/deadheading and fertilizing. I wouldn't dare put any fertilizer on while we were so dry.

I hope you all are having a good day and have a wonderful weekend.

Everything is looking so lovely. You certainly have a way with the plants. I use too, but in the last few years it seems I have developed a brown thumb. I have even killed Marigolds! Go figure. After I retire I am determined to get my green thumb back. In the meantime I will just continue to plant my flowers in my pots (for now) and hope for the best.

Glad you finally got some rain. Drought conditions are so scary. We have certainly have had our share here in California.

I'm so glad to hear you got some rain, Becca. You've had quite a dry spell down there. Your flowers are very pretty, and you're right, they will perk back up again after the rain is done. I hope you have a nice weekend! :)

Those colors together are beautiful!
You gotta love the rain, especially when it's dry, but afterwards the flowers are so beat up! Not to worry, you'll have more to share with us!I hated leaving mine, so I have yours to make me happy! Many hugs!

I am so excited you got some rain...we got a teasing sprinkle on the weekend but not even close to enough to give me a break from watering the plants...the poor farmers need it so so bad...and yup fires because of the dry heat...We can smell the wild fire that is about 30minutes drive from here whenever we open the door.

Lets pray AL and Fl get some more of that lovely wet stuff soon.

Even some of the pictures are a bit blurry, they are still very nice pictures and show the beauty of the blossoms.

Sounds like some people still do get rain. ;)
Here in our town we went through another week of no rain - at least our neighborhood where I am living.
There were some storms around but for whatever reason we did not see any rain again and my plants could need a good rain so bad.
Well, maybe next week. LOL
Have a wonderful weekend

Hi Becca, it's crazy that your area is in a drought and here in the PNW, we have had so much rain, cloudy days that we are surpassing records set in the 1940's for rainfall and cool temps! Glad you got some relief, it's a shame the rain comes down so heavy to knock your blooms down, but at least you got some rain! Happy FF!

Love your pictures. Rain is always good to have, because after the rain and the dead heading and fertilizer and a bit more water, everything will come back even better!

I love the red verbena and have planted some, but they didn't make it. So I must try again because yours are very pretty. My Dianthus plants do pretty good most of the time. I'm your new follower and would love to have you visit and follow my blog, too. Have a wonderful day.
